Cornell University has a vast network of alumni across all walks of life. Since the early 1900s, distinguished figures such as Hu Shih and Yuen Ren Chao — as well as former Presidents of Taiwan, Lee Teng-hui and Tsai Ing-wen — have been among its graduates. In Taiwan, many outstanding Cornellians continue to make an impact across diverse fields, with contributions that reach far beyond the island and into the global community.
For more than thirty years, the Cornell Alumni Association of Taiwan has actively organized various events to strengthen the bonds among Cornellians in Taiwan and abroad.
To establish the association as a lasting institution, it was officially registered as a non-profit organization on January 1, 2021, under the name “Cornell Alumni Association of Taiwan (CAAT)”.
CAAT is also officially recognized by Cornell University’s Office of Alumni Affairs.
1. To foster intergenerational fellowship and connect Cornell University with its alumni in Taiwan and the surrounding regions — strengthening friendships, promoting the exchange of knowledge, and embodying the Cornell spirit through service to society.
2. To organize regular events aimed at achieving financial self-sufficiency and ensuring the sustainable development of the association.
3. To promote intercollegiate collaboration by co-hosting or participating in events, lectures, and gatherings with other Ivy League and leading universities.
4. To invite distinguished alumni from various colleges to give talks and share insights that inspire forward-thinking and leadership.
5. To provide members with regular updates, event information, and resources, while establishing a structured membership and governance system.
The founding principle of Cornell University was originally spoken by Ezra Cornell on October 7, 1868, at the official dedication of Cornell University and the inauguration of its first president, Andrew Dickson White. This founding principle can be used as a complete statement:
"I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study."
